Sleepy Kiwi Board Book

$19.09

Sleepy Kiwi's bedtime story, told in bold, chunky black and white pictures that even the youngest eyes can see. A lovely first book for a new baby.

For reading together from birth. Babies can make out the high-contrast pictures from the start and respond to them, which makes it a lovely way to begin a calm bedtime routine. The words are written to be read aloud, using repetition and sound words rather than forced rhyme, for a natural, soothing rhythm.

Later on it makes an easy first reader. The author is dyslexic herself and has laid the book out in a dyslexia-friendly format, with clear, simple lettering and easy sentences. Suitable from age 0.

Board book with a matte laminated finish and rounded corners.

20cm x 20cm. Sturdy board pages with rounded corners, a good size for small hands to hold and turn.

A newborn's eyesight is still developing, and for the first few weeks they see bold, high-contrast shapes far more easily than soft colours or fine detail. Black and white images give them something they can actually focus on, which is why young babies often study them so intently.

Colour vision develops gradually over the first months, but simple black and white designs stay engaging well beyond that, and they make a calm, uncluttered thing to look at together.

Every toy has an age guide in its Usage tab, set by the maker for that particular toy. It's worth following, as it takes into account the size of the pieces as well as how a child is likely to play with them.

We choose toys made from natural and renewable materials wherever we can, with smooth edges and pieces sized for little hands. As with any toy, keep an eye on young children while they play, and check pieces now and then for wear.

If you're buying for a particular child and aren't sure, email sales@nznature.co.nz and we'll help you choose.

We don't offer gift wrapping at the moment, but we're happy to include a message from you. Add it in the notes when you order, along with who it's from, and we'll pass it on with the parcel.
